Brief Introduction of Foreign Language Teaching Department

 

Foreign Language Teaching Department, formerly known as the Department of Foreign Languages, School of Basic Medical Sciences, was renamed as School of Foreign Languages in January 2004 and Foreign Language Teaching Department in June 2019.

There are 51 faculty members in the department, including 16 associate professors/researchers. The department is made up of five teaching and research sections (two College English Teaching and Research Sections, Postgraduate English Teaching and Research Section, Long-term Program English Teaching and Research Section, and Minority Languages Teaching and Research Section).

The department is responsible for public foreign language teaching across various levels, including undergraduate, graduate (master's and doctoral), and continuing education programs. As a teaching unit of foreign languages, the department is always putting teaching in the priority.In the past five years, in the online teaching evaluations released by the Quality Assessment Office of the school, the average ranking of the department's faculty members has been among the top in the university. Teachers are encouraged to participate in various teaching competitions at all levels. In the past five years, we have achieved outstanding results in teaching competitions, including 1 national first prize, 3 provincial first prizes, 4 provincial second prizes, and 2 provincial third prizes. Additionally, we have obtained 2 national third prizes, 3 provincial first prizes, 8 provincial second prizes, and 17 provincial third prizes in high-level contests such asFLTRP · ETIC Cup” English Contest and SFLEP Intercultural Competence Contest. Besides, we have garnered over 500 awards in various discipline competitions.

The department cooperates with the main discipline of Chinese medicine in the university, and carries out scientific research on Chinese medicine plus foreign languages. In the past five years, the department has undertaken a total of 25 national-level, provincial-level, and department-level research projects, with 107 papers published, including 24 papers indexed by SCI, SSCI, CSSCI, CSCD, and Chinese core journals.

In the future, in accordance with the university development strategies of “strengthening the university by talents, climbing the disciplinary peak, opening and cooperating, and cultural guidance”, the department will strive to do better in teaching, personnel training, scientific research, discipline construction and social services, making greater contributions to building the university into a first-class university of traditional Chinese medicine with Chinese characteristics and Chinese style.
